  • Another renowned visual designs you created The Save-Ums by The Emmy nominated for preschoolers airing in the United States; how you could create so many outstanding characters?
The Save-Ums was one of my favorite pre-school kids’shows to make. We wanted it to look like the vinyl and toy character creations that were coming out from Japan and Hong Kong. In 1999 vinyl was not in the US yet. The characters started off kind of tall, with longer bodies and legs. They weren’t quite cute enough. In one work session we decided what would they look like if we got rid of the bodies and just used the heads. When the heads turned into the majority of the character then we had something unique.“Small Is Powerful” was the show motto. Each character had a very distinct personality that fit with some aspect of social emotion growth for a child.
